A full house greeted the Knebworth Community Chorus when the choir appeared at the Knebworth Village Hall in its Songs for Summer concert, celebrating summer and the English country garden.
Under the direction of Derek Harrison, the Chorus presented a varied programme that included a memorable performance of “A Flower Remembered”, John Rutter’s poignant composition in memory of the victims of the Tohoku area earthquake and the tsunami (Japan, March 2011) through to the rousing show tune ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone' from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical Carousel.
More highlights of the evening came when special guest Hal Fowler gave powerful renditions of songs from classical musicals including Oklahoma and The King and I.
Then, surprising the audience and Chorus alike, Derek Harrison and Hal Fowler joined forces to sing the duet “Panis Angelicus”, an item not listed on the evening’s programme!
There was a retiring collection for Waste Not Want Not, a local charity dedicated to nurturing Plants and People.
